Alex Raikes
Chief Executive, Stand Against Racism & Inequality (SARI)
Born in South East London in 1969, Alex Raikes MBE DL grew up in a mixed race family navigating many life challenges including a school where racism and bullying were rife. Alex graduated in Social Policy at Bristol University in 1991 joining award winning human rights charity, SARI (Stand Against Racism & Inequality) later in the same year. 32 years later and she is now leading SARI and is reknown for being a driving force for promoting equality and tackling hatred across the region. She is a member of University of Bristol Court; was awarded an MBE for contribution to race relations in 2009; received an Honorary Doctorate from UWE and made Deputy Lieutenant in 2019, was High Sheriff of the County of City of Bristol in 2022 and received and Honorary Doctorate from Bristol University in 2023. Alex is proud Mum to four young adult sons.
